About the Project

The City of Frisco, Texas’s first public skateboard park is located within Northeast Community Park, a 75 acre, $16 million project that also includes a concession and storage buildings, restroom facilities, a pond, new trails, and sports fields. At approximately 47,000 square feet in size, the skatepark is currently one of the largest in the Southwest United States.

Shotcrete Construction

Services included turn-key skatepark shotcrete operations over the 9 month project duration. Per Designer specifications, all shotcrete was placed by ACI certified shotcrete nozzlemen, qualified shotcrete equipment and supporting personnel. All concrete skate park terrain requires a Class A steel trowel concrete finish due to a skateboard’s urethane wheel diameter of 50 – 65 mm. As part of the quality control process CCP placed shotcrete in multiple layers of uniform thickness eliminating concrete sloughing for the vertical, over-vertical and other artistic skate park features. Other intended users of the facility are scooters, bikes, roller blades and roller skates. Hot and cold weather shotcrete placement procedures were developed specifically for the project. Shotcrete mix designs incorporated several admixtures to mitigate unsightly surface shrinkage. Curing efforts blocked wind, sun and excessive surface moisture loss. Several integral concrete colors were added to the ready mix trucks when on site. The City hosts local and regional skateboarding events, and has since completion become a regular destination for skateboarders in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex in North Texas
